There are (currently) 3 versions of the Australian Daybill for THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.

1) Genuine 1st release

2) Reissue (2nd release)

3) Reproduction

DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL DAYBILLS  (click on thumbnail for full-sized photo, and again for zoom-in)

They are easy to tell apart, although the Reissue and the Repro may be hard to tell from an ebay or web image.

First release is easy to tell apart, even by a poor image, as it has the original Rating “For General Exhibition”  rather than the later “G” rating, also the later is printed by MAPS. Print quality and paper is also a dead give-away, however this may not be noticible from an ebay or web image.

The Repro is made from the Reissue however:

1) the art crop is slightly out on the repro, especially left hand side.

2)  the MAPS logo is too large on the Repro.

3)  the reissue has crop marks printed, the repro doesn’t.

4)  plus the paper is too glossy on the repro, but that’s hard to tell in a pic.

5)  in the reissue the area where the Original Ratings box has been painted over has been fixed up in the repro, note the blueish paint job over the “For General Exhibition” rating (visable on the Original) that was done on the Reissue, then redone on the repro.
