Indiana Jones saga reprints for media

In conjunction with the release of the fourth Indiana Jones movie, Lucasfilm sent to selected media and industry personnel a press gift of Indiana Jones posters comprising of reprints of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade and an original of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The reported printing quantity for each reprint is 3200, with the poster dimensions being the standard 27×40 inches.  These were not printed to be used in movie theaters and were not made for sale to the public, but it is suspected that they will ultimately end up on the open market and sold as original, “exclusive” or “special edition” movie posters to unsuspecting collectors.

The key to recognizing these reprints is the presence of

printed in the lower left hand corner of all these posters. The notation of “IJ” stands for Indiana Jones and the “052208” for the movie release date of May 22, 2008 for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

There is a definite depreciation in the printing quality of the media reprints compared to the originals, but the easiest way to spot these reprints is to look for the IJ-MEDIA-052208 notation.

Many thanks to Pete Vilmur, co-author of The Star Wars Poster Book, for providing the information and for kindly contributing these posters to MPA to help collectors distinguish them from the originals.
